Workout Tips For People With Heart Disease

OK, So What Are The Basics?

Let’s get started with these simple workout tips. Now that you’ve decided to start exercising to benefit your heart. You have an idea of what you’d like to do keeping in mind combining aerobic and anaerobic exercises.

Pace Yourself, and Rest Often

Don’t start out doing one hour of continuous exercise. You won’t be able to sustain it right out of the gate, and you’ll get tired and discouraged. Start out doing 10 minutes of exercise, and work your way up slowly to 30 minutes a day.

Remember, you should be able to speak normally while exercising, and not be short of breath. Rest when you’re tired!

Keep the Weather In Mind

Don’t exercise outdoors when it’s too cold, too hot, or too humid. Extremes of humidity and temperature can cause chest pain. Stick to indoor exercises when the weather doesn’t cooperate.

Drink Water!

Stay hydrated. Always keep a bottle of water handy. Drink even if you’re not thirsty, especially if it’s warm.

Avoid Extremes of Temperature After Exercising

No saunas, hot or cold showers when you’re done with exercise. These put stress on the heart.

Steer Clear of Steep Inclines

Climbing uphill or going down a steep incline increases the workload on the heart. If you have to walk in such an area, walk slowly, and check your pulse rate closely.

If You Have To Stop Exercising For A Few Days

Don’t exercise if you have a cold or feel ill. If you have gone on vacation for a few days and didn’t exercise, or had to stop for any other reason for a short time, restart your exercise with a reduced amount of time and intensity, then gradually work back up to your previous level.
